Friday Prayers Peaceful, Isolated Stone Pelting In Srinagar indiatoday.in
Strict restrictions were in place in and around Srinagar on Friday, when weekly prayers were held peacefully in the city amid terror threat and rumors of widespread protests. Namaaz’s prayers were peacefully offered in most mosques in the city. Big mosques such as Jamia Masjid remained closed as a precautionary measure. Protests were seen here previously after Friday prayers. Local mosques in some residential colonies were kept open and large groups of people were seen offering prayers.
Senior officers present near the mosques were seen checking identity cards of devotees before allowing them to go inside and offer Friday prayers. The officers permitted a few people who did not have identity cards. Traffic movement was restrained towards the volatile downtown of Srinagar and even stopped near the Dal Lake. People faced inconvenience due to diversions in many areas of Srinagar, even in posh areas that usually remain peaceful.
