5 Soldiers Among 10 Killed In Avalanches In Jammu And Kashmir indiatoday.in
Four Army soldiers, a BSF jawan and five civilians were killed in separate avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir, police and defence sources said on Tuesday. While four soldiers lost their lives after an avalanche hit their post in the Machil sector in Kupwara district, a BSF jawan was killed and six others were rescued after an avalanche along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. In Sonmarag in Ganderbal district, five civilians were killed in after an avalanche hit Kulan village.
The defence sources said four soldiers were killed after an avalanche hit an Army post in Machil sector along the LoC on Tuesday. Five soldiers were trapped under the avalanche. The Army launched rescue operations and traced four of the soldiers. While three of them were declared dead, another was injured and is being treated at a local military facility, the sources said.
