J&K Man Held With Pistol, Cartridges timesofindia.indiatimes.com
The police arrested a man from Jammu and Kashmir with a pistol and four cartridges near Kalibari light point on Wednesday night. A local court on Thursday sent the accused to police remand for further interrogation. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Thakur, 31, a resident of village Bakal, in Jammu and Kashmir. He was living in Raipur Khurd village in the city.
A police team from Sector 31 police station had put up a checkpoint near the railway bridge, 3 BRD Air Force Gate, to keep a tab on the movement of anti-social elements ahead of the Republic Day. The accused arrived there in his Haryana-registered car. Thakur was signalled to stop and asked to show the documents of the vehicle.
On suspicion, he was also frisked, which led to the recovery of a pistol loaded with four cartridges from his possession, the cops claimed. As the accused also failed to produce licence of the pistol, the weapon was seized and he was arrested under the Arms Act. During interrogation, Thakur said he resides with his wife and son at Raipur Khurd and runs Royal City Hotel in Zirakpur on lease.
