Jammu And Kashmir: Farooq Abdullah Detained Under PSA, Can Go Without Trial For 2 Years timesnownews.com
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah was on Monday detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Notably, the PSA permits the detention of any individual for up to two years sans a trial.
Interestingly, the law was first promulgated during the tenure of Sheikh Abdullah, the father of Farooq Abdullah.
Also, an order has been issued declaring the place where the sitting Lok Sabha member from Srinagar will be housed as a temporary jail.
Farooq Abdullah has been under house arrest since August 5, when the Centre scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special powers to Jammu and Kashmir.
Last week, two National Conference MPs were given permission to visit Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah. However, they were not permitted to interact with the media due to restrictions following the meeting.
