Govt’s Tourist Advisory For Kashmir Ends Today, Shutdown Enters Day 67 In Valley indiatoday.in
he restrictions imposed on tourists intending to visit the Kashmir Valley will be lifted today following a direction from Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday. On August 2, the state administration had issued a security advisory asking tourists, especially pilgrims taking part in the annual Amarnath yatra, to leave the Kashmir Valley as soon as possible. Back then, the government had said this advisory has been issued due to a “terror threat” in the Kashmir Valley.
The advisory was issued days before the Narendra Modi government took the historic step to make Article 370 inoperable in J&K and scrap the special status enjoyed by the state. This was followed by the government imposing restrictions on movement and communication across Jammu and Kashmir, besides detaining hundreds of political leaders as a “precautionary” measure.
