Jammu Chamber Seeks ‘Riders’ On Land Purchase In J And K brighterkashmir.com
In wake of the rampant advertisements that get published in outside newspapers about sale and purchase of land in Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded “riders” on the purchase of land and investments in the state on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh. After the abrogation of Special Status, anybody can purchase land in Jammu and Kashmir. This has sparked apprehension among many people, including in Kashmir, who are demanding domicile status. The winter capital’s most prominent conglomerate of businesses is now demanding that nobody should be allowed to purchase land or invest in Jammu and Kashmir. The chamber is demanding ‘riders’ on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh.
President, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rakesh Gupta said if some outsider is serious to settle down here and do business, there has to be some sort of a rider like the neighboring State of Himachal. Registration of property should be done only after the person who has come from outside has spent certain years here. In Himachal, outsiders can buy a flat but not land, there is a certain time period,” Gupta said. He said in the absence of any ‘riders’ the prices of land will increase and locals will be unable to purchase property in Jammu and Kashmir.
