Communication Blackout In Kashmir In National Interest, Press Council Seeks Intervention In Supreme Court barandbench.com
Press Council of India has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking intervention in the petition filed by Kashmir Times executive editor Anuradha Bhasin, which prays for the relaxation of communication restrictions in Kashmir.
Interestingly, while the object of PCI is to preserve the freedom of the press, the PCI in its application in fact states that the communication blackout is in the interest of the integrity and sovereignty of the nation, reports The Wire. The council has said it would like to present its views before the Court to assist it in deciding Bhasin’s petition “justly in the interest of the freedom of the press as well as in the national interest”.
