Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will ply from Jammu to Srinagar only while Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) from both sides on Wednesday on the national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
About 10,000 vehicles, including 8000 HMVs and 2000 LMVs have reached their destination on the highway during the past 24 hours, a traffic police official said.
Meanwhile, massive snow clearance operation was going on to put through the 86-km-long historic Mughal road which is closed for the eighth day on Wednesday. The road, which is seen as an alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connects Shopian in south Kashmir and Rajouri and Poonch.
One-way traffic would continue on the 434-km-long Srinagar–Leh national highway, connecting Union Territory (UT) with Kashmir valley. Today traffic will ply from Sonmarg in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal to Ladakh, the official said.
He said about 10,000 vehicles, including 8000 HMVs, which had left Srinagar and Jammu have reached their destinations during the past 24 hours.
Today HMVs, including those carrying essentials for Kashmir, left Jammu this morning. No HMV will be allowed to ply from the opposite direction, he said adding LMVs, particularly, carrying passengers will be allowed to operate from both sides.
