An Uneasy Calm Prevails In Indian Kashmir’s Northern Bandipore As Most Forced To Remain Indoors sputniknews.com
New Delhi (Sputnik): Bandipore in North Kashmir is a scenic valley, located on the northern banks of Wullar Lake, the second-largest freshwater lake in Asia. On three sides, the district is bound by mountains and the Wullar Lake on the southern side. The district remained relatively calm during the restive times that followed India’s stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. The last major terror strike in the area was in September 2018, when three terrorists and an army soldier were killed in an army anti-militant operation. During the initial days of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, in the early 1990s, the Line of Control on the northern borders of the district served as a gateway for infiltrating militants.
