The recently released report on crime statistics in India in 2017 gives astonishing details of an aspect that is usually not much commented upon casualties caused by actions of police forces. In 2017, the last year for which data has been released, 786 civilians were killed and 3,990 injured in police actions. There are several worrying aspects of these numbers.
Foremost among these worries is this: the number of civilians killed in 2017 is more than six times the number in 2016 while the number of those injured is nearly four times more.
