Evening Flights At Jammu Airport Remain Mere Announcement tribuneindia.com
Infrastructural deficiencies and alleged vested interests of airline operators have virtually turned the much-talked-about announcement for operating evening flights from the Jammu airport into a mere slogan as no headway had been made in the project even after the lapse of almost a year. The Jammu and Kashmir Government had extended the timings for operations at Jammu Airport up to 9 pm from January 1 this year, but the airport authorities have failed to bring flights for an evening in Jammu.
According to sources, the airline operators are reluctant to add more flights in Jammu as doing this would bring down the airfare to and fro from Jammu. Another reason for not adding evening flights is the shorter runway for which the expansion of runway is in progress which is expected to be completed by March 2020. The flights landing at Jammu Airport cannot fly with the full load as the airport has only 6,700 feet-long runway, which forces the aircraft to use emergency brakes at the time of landing in the winter capital.
