The historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar remained out of bounds for worshippers for a twelfth consecutive week, even as restrictions were imposed in parts of Kashmir on Friday.
Normal life was hit in Kashmir Valley on Friday as people observed spontaneous shutdown for the running 82nd day against the annulment of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir that deprived people of their own flag, state subject rights and other things. The special status was annulled by the Government of India through a Presidential decree on 5 August this year and since then Kashmir Valley is in stagnation mode. The decision sparked resentment even in Jammu and Kargil while in Leh people are demanding domicile status.
Shops, business establishments, private schools, and colleges remained shut while the majority of the fuel stations also remained out of service. Public transport was not seen on the roads.
Private transport was seen on the roads in Srinagar city while no Friday congregational prayers were allowed for the 12th consecutive Friday at historical Jamia Masjid in the old city. Huge deployment of Forces was seen on the roads to ensure peace and order.
