LG Says Poll Process In J&K To Begin Soon, Asks Cops To Be Ready For Key Role timesofindia.indiatimes.com
Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Thursday said that the election process in the newly-created Union Territory would begin soon. “It will not continue like this,” Murmu said, adding, “The process for holding the elections will come soon.” The Centre had on August 5 revoked the special status to Jammu and Kashmir by nullifying Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. J&K is a Union Territory with an assembly, but not Ladakh. At a police function in Reasi district, about 70km from Jammu, Murmu said there would be an “important role” for the men in uniform in the forthcoming elections. “Elections will come. It is a Union Territory with a legislature,” he said.
