The Srinagar center of the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of rains and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. “A fresh western disturbance is moving towards J&K and it is likely to become active on November 27 which will bring more rain and snowfall,” Sonam Lotus, the director of the station told Brighter Kashmir. Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh recorded minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, thereby turning into the coldest place in the country, whereas Jammu and Kashmir recorded a mild rise in temperature after dropping several degrees below the season’s average.
Apart from Leh, other nearby places, such as Gulmarg and Kargil in north Kashmir also recorded sub-zero night temperatures, i.e., minus 3.8 and minus 1.3 degree Celsius respectively. The latest reports suggest that the high altitudes of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including Gulmarg, witnessed fresh snowfall, whereas the plains were lashed by partly light to moderate rains between November 21 and 23.
