Rain, Snow Closes Highway For 2nd Day risingkashmir.com
Rain and snowfall continued for a second consecutive day in plains and upper reaches of the Valley on Tuesday forcing the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway for the second day. Director Metrological Department Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they are expecting a slight improvement in weather conditions from Wednesday morning. He said from Wednesday onward mainly dry weather is expected till January 11. “Another spell of light snow and rains is likely from January 12-13. We are closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
As per weather officials, both higher reaches of Kashmir and Jammu received fresh light to moderate snowfall while plains in Jammu received rains today. The north Kashmir’s Keran and Machil sectors received over 1 foot of fresh snow today while Kupwara town received 9.3 cms and ski resort Gulmarg received 25 centimetres, they said. The weather officials said south Kashmir’s Pahalgam received 7.5 cms snowfall, Qazigund 1.4 cms, Kokernag 8.5 cms, Banihal 3 cms, Batote 3 cms. The upper reaches of Kishtwar and Pir-Panjal areas received fresh snow.
