SC Seeks Report From Jammu & Kashmir Chief Justice On Access To Court livemint.com
The Supreme Court on Monday sought a report from the chief justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on allegations that people there were finding it difficult to approach the high court. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said, “If required, I will go and personally check. I will speak to the chief justice today.” Gogoi’s statement followed claims of senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi who said the high court was not functioning adequately due to restrictions in the state.
Ahmadi was arguing for child rights activists Enakshi Ganguly and Shanta Sinha, who has filed a plea saying following the scrapping of the state’s special status, children and teenagers have been facing serious hardship. When the apex court bench said the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir would be better placed to provide a remedy, the counsel said approaching the J&K high court was difficult due to restrictions in the state.
