Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing On Communication Shut Down Till Tomorrow

The Supreme Court today adjourned hearing on a batch of petitions–including one of Kashmir-based Editor Anuradha Basin and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad–challenging Kashmir’s communication shut down till tomorrow at the request of the Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta. The Court had earlier rebuked Mehta for ”not giving enough attention’’ to the case at hand and even asked the Jammu & Kashmir administration, to respond to all the contentions raised by the petitioners on the restrictions imposed following the abrogation of Article 370. The bench presided by NV Ramana and comprising Justices R Subhash Reddy and BR Gavai told Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the state administration, that the several petitioners who had challenged the many restrictions put up by the government in the region have already argued their case in detail. So he also needs to be equally prepared to come up with a detailed response to contest the claims of petitioners.
